Hey there! Welcome to SadBoy Ceramics, I’m Nathan. Located in Des Moines, Iowa, I specialize in small-batch, hand-thrown, functional pottery. In the winter of 2022, I took the leap from hobbyist to professional potter and started SBC. But why SadBoy?

I was first introduced to clay in 2013. This was a particularly difficult time for me and I was forced to come to terms with my depression, something I had felt since adolescence, but never named. Pottery quickly became an important tool in managing my mental health. Pottery provides me with a creative outlet and a community of makers. It also offers up everyday, grounding moments - whether I am sinking my hands into clay or sipping from my favorite mug. THIS is my hope with SadBoy Ceramics: to provide YOU with everyday, grounding moments and to cultivate a supportive community of pottery lovers.
